American vocalist indulges in Vietnam
(Cập nhật: 21.05.2008 10:35)

Kat Parsons’ imaginative mix of guitar-driven folk/rod( and jazz is charming audiences at the Park Hyatt in Ho Chi Minh City.

She is performing live everyday except Tuesday from April 23 to July 19 at the Park Hyatt Saigon’s Park Lounge.

In the following Thanh Nien Daily interview, the American singer answers two brief questions and speaks about her first trip to the country.

Parsons has appeared on MN, the Food Network, CBS and WGN, as well as on such shows as “Good Morning Arizona” and the “Fox Morning Show”. She has also performed on CBS, KCRW, WLUW.

She has received praise from The Washington Post, The Boston Globe and other major American publications.

Thanh Nien: Welcome to Vietnam. How would you describe your first impressions of the country and HCMC?

Kat Parsons: I love this part of the world. I love Southeast Asia. I love Vietnam.

I have enjoyed these two weeks in HCMC… I’ve enjoyed walking around and exploring… there’s great energy here… even crossing the street is exciting and scary! Everyone’s going in different directions, you’re not sure when they’re going to stop.

I’ve gotten the chance to see Cu Chi Tunnels and a few museums.

I am looking forward to learning more about Ho Chi Minh City and Vietnamese culture during my stay here.

Your parents are both musicians. Did you inherit their talent? How have you distinguished your own work from theirs?

Music has been a part of my life since birth. My entire family, immediate and extended, sing. It’s how we communicate.

So, it’s quite natural that I love music. It’s a joy that all of my family shares.

As far as how I set myself apart… music is a form of expression and I think that we all express ourselves differently, with a different perspective… everyone’s voice is unique.
